Jan Maitland Reverse Painting and Gilding On Glass
An accomplished and internationally awarded pastel artist, Jan Maitland was drawn toward Gilded Glass Painting during a visit to master glass artist Marco Toso Borella, in Murano, Italy. “I was inspired by his work on gilded glass and application of Gustav Klimt motifs. I knew immediately that I had to explore this exciting medium. My love and long experience painting figures and use of pointillism meshed naturally with this more three-dimensional presentation”.

Jan’s own glass art style has evolved and incorporates the use of gold and silver gilding, enamel painting, reverse painting (verre églomisé), and often, fanciful millefiori bead accents. In many cases, she incorporates her original figurative and still-life work directly into one-of-a-kind gilded glass art pieces. Clients are immediately drawn to her unique “Wall Jewelry”, table tops, glasses and room accent pieces. She successfully produces usable, artistic, and decorative forms of art. Jan’s Italian inspired gilded glass work has received artistic acclaim and she has done commissioned pieces for devotees in Los Angeles, San Francisco, as well as locally.

In addition to Jan’s signature memberships in other professional art societies, she is a member of the Society of Gilders and has studied gilding techniques with Frances Binnington in San Francisco.
